Things to do in San Francisco

Things to do in San FranciscoWhen it comes to things you can do and see in San Francisco, your only problem may be having too many to choose from.

Tours around San Francisco and its relevant attractions are organised almost every day. You can hop on the double decker bus and ride around the city sight seeing and experiencing parts of American history through SF’s many historical and other famous landmarks, such as the Coit Tower (considered a tribute to volunteer firefighters of San Francisco ) or the Golden Gate Bridge (the most recognizable symbol of San Francisco).

Harbour tours take you around the San Francisco Bay and are a good way to view the city. They are a great way to see the bay, all of San Francisco’s bridges as well as the infamous prison Alcatraz. While most harbour tours only offer a view of Alcatraz from the water, some actually do station there, offering you the chance to actually go inside the prison walls. Once inside, you are highly recommended to take the audio tour for the full experience.

Museums such as M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, one that holds indigenous and contemporary art, the Wax Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art are just some of the many that are at your disposal.

Another popular tourist attraction is the grand Golden Gate Park along with its Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden.

The San Francisco Zoo is the largest in North California and is great to visit if you are travelling with children.

While in SF you shouldn’t miss riding in one of the many cable cars that just like the Golden Gate Bridge serve as a trademark of the city.

Out of the Sf’s districts it is recommended that you explore the Fisherman’s Wharf where you will come across great street performers, amazing fresh seafood museums and take off points for many of the boat cruises around the city. Other parts of the city that are of interest to tourists are Chinatown, The Castro, The Civic Center and Treasure Island. Many people opt for the Napa and/or Sonoma Wine Country Tours which usually includes visiting different wineries, getting acquainted to the way wine is made and wine tasting. Day trips to Yosemite National Park just outside San Francisco are a good way to relax from city life. While there, it’s good to visit the Ginat Sequoias, the largest trees in the world. Last but not least, if you are a sports fan, depending on the season, you could catch a baseball game with the San Francisco Giants or football with the NFL’s San Francisco 69ers.
