It is connected to BART which is the Bay Area Rapid Transit, or in other words subway, and can take you straight to downtown San Francisco. A one way ticket is about $8.00 and the trains run fairly frequently, every 15-20 minutes.
Other airports around the city are Oakland International, which is located in the East Bay and Norman Y.Mineta San Jose International, located about an hour away from SF. They are also connected to the city by public transport.
You also have the option of renting a car, taking a taxi or a shared van from the airport to the city, but at a higher cost. Once in the city, besides BART, you can hop on the MUNI-streetcars (buses) that run through SF or the Historic Streetcar F Line. The weather in San Francisco is fairly moderate throughout the year due to it’s oceanfront location, with temperatures rarely falling below 40ºF or rising above 80ºF. At night it gets chilly, so it is recommended that you bring some warmer clothes regardless of the time of year.
Places to avoid after dark, consist mainly of the Civic Center area which stretches from Market & Van Ness to Market & 6th, as well as the end of Haight Street by the Golden Gate Park, as it has a higher crime rate and a problem with the homeless.
