Going out in San Francisco, there is a wide range of different clubs and bars to choose from. San Francisco’s night scene is as diverse as it’s culture and offers everything from karaoke bars, lounges, wine bars, gay clubs, adult strip clubs, to live music, Irish pubs and hideaway spots that work until the wee hours of the night.
The clubs and bars of various districts all have their own vibe to it. For example, The Castro district, otherwise also known as the center of the gay and lesbian community in SF, offers many gay and lesbian-friendly hot spots. However, as San Francisco has the largest gay and lesbian population in the country (per capita), gay friendly bars and clubs exist and thrive all over the city.
Going out in the Golden Gate district you shouldn’t expect to find a crazy party scene especially in the Marina, as this is one of the most clean cut areas of SF. It is pricier and many people who aren’t swimming in cash avoid it.
There are much cheaper places to go for an awesome time, but if your heart is set on something that’s high end then you can check out some of the regular, as well as wine bars and clubs this district has to offer. For example, Gravity, a hip-hop spot with a dress code and The HiFi Lounge, where you can dance your booty off. SoMa is a district with a thriving night life and is home to some of the best dance clubs in San Francisco.
You can choose from 1050, one of the most popular clubs in SF, The Cat Club, where they have an 80s night every Thursday ($6 cover), The End Up which stays open late (or early) on the weekends and is therefore the place where people “end up”. That is just to name a few of the many clubs in SoMa. Irish pubs are mostly located in the Sunset are of SF and the Haight-Ashbury district is where hippie loving characters love to hang out. This is also the place for the more punk rock inclined so there is an interesting mix of clubs to try out.
Another one of pocket emptying decisions is going out in Nob Hill, but many say it’s well worth it. There you might want to check out the Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar at the Fairmont Hotel, which has a Polynesian theme to it.
